Rhoton Randomness

I have not been doing a good job of updating the blog lately...

So... what have we been up to you ask!?!

Let's see...

Since purchasing the Keurig... my coffee addiction is now full blown! It's ridiculous really.

Phonathon and school are in full swing! I have been extra careful to keep up with my assignments so I don't fall behind this semester!

Dan has been working... working... and working some more. He has picked up several part time jobs like a Bar mitzvah, an inauguration ceremony, and some hours at the university.

Dan also started playing racquet ball regularly with Greg aka Gregor (a friend's husband).

Remi has been doing what he does best...

Hanging out at home...

 Helping me with homework...

And enjoying his new obsession with eating blueberries!

And that's what we've been up to lately!

Next big event in our world... someone is turning the big 4 years old soon!

Mileage Monday

Running stats for the week of January 21st - January 27th... This past week was the start of Phonathon which comes with a very funky schedule. I was coming into work from 8:00am -12:00pm... leaving to go back home from 12:00pm - 4:30pm... then coming back into work from 4:30pm-9:00pm. Having such a weird schedule that first week of Phonathon always messes me up and all the other things that are going on. I especially struggled to complete my assignment for my GERO program. Luckily, once that was finished I could use my afternoons to run and boy did it feel good to do so!

I have about 3 months until I'm running my half marathon. It is definitely time to get serious! No more skipping runs or slacking off on my mileage. If I'm going to succeed at my goal I'm going to have to be accountable for what is expected of me each week. I should be at a long run of 8 miles... I've only done one of 6 miles so far. YIKES!

Wacky Week

So between the students coming back from Christmas break, me starting back up with school, eight hours of Phonathon Training this past weekend, and the wacky hours I have been working this week... I am finally starting to wear down a bit and even get a little grouchy! I know... hard to believe.

I've been heading into work during the morning to get some things done and make sure I'm there for our VP interviews that we are having... then heading home in the afternoons to work on my assignments for class... then it's back to work all evening to make sure my callers know what they are doing before they start making calls for Phonathon. Like I said... my schedule has been wacky!

I have not worked out in over a week... YIKES! I have been living off coffee and soda... DOUBLE YIKES! And I've had zero time for my favorite shows... thank goodness for the DVR!

Remi has even been asking Dan about my absence around the house lately...

"Uhhhh... Dad? Where's Mom?"

"Is she over there?"

"What about under this blanket?"

"What about down here?"

"Oh... she's just at work... I can rest easy now."

Only a few more days and things will be back to normal... or as normal as they can be :) Happy Hump Day!

Mileage Monday

Running stats for the week of January 14th - 20th... what a flop! School, phonathon, and having tons of homework started up this week. Bleh... running took a back seat. Better luck for the upcoming week!

Lance Armstrong

Is anyone as irritated with Lance Armstrong as I am??? Or are you just sick of hearing about the whole situation like my husband is??? Uhhhhhgggg! Lance is under my skin!

I'm not so much annoyed that he lied to the entire world... yes its awful but that isn't what gets me going... its more so that he made everyone who accused him of doping look like they were awful people for even thinking that "HE" would do something so unthinkable! My blood starts boiling just writing this!

Then recently, I've heard people in the news praising him for coming clean after all these years. They practically act like he is a saint for it! Sorry... I'm not feeling it. Lance is the biggest FRAUD in the country right now!

I dunno... the whole thing just makes me angry and I personally think he's an absolute idiot!

There you have it... my two cents for the day!

Keurig Love

I don't know if many of you know this, but we got a Keurig for Christmas and I am absolutely in love with it!

I am no longer addicted to my morning pit stop at McDonald's for my $2.50 small Carmel Mocha!

Instead I have been brewing my own delicious coffee concoctions in my very own home!

When we bought the Keurig it came with several different samples to try... but what was even better turned out to be the huge discount they gave us for our first purchase of K-cups!

We bought a ton of different kinds!! My absolute favorite has been the Wild Mountain Blueberry!

I also surprisingly really liked the German Chocolate Cake!

We have tried several others... which are all good... but don't blow my mind like these two do :)

I'm definitely in Keurig love!

Running stats for the week of January 7th - January 13th... after being on a break for the past two to three weeks I have definitely struggled to start running again. I've been in hibernation mode. Running this week was painful. I hurt all over and struggled to breathe on every run! Bleh! It was nice though that the weather warmed up a bit and melted the snow. It gave me the chance to hit the pavement one day and do my long run this week. Because the gym is so dang crowded between 5-7 pm I tried going at 9 pm instead. I was pleasantly surprised with a lot less people there! I actually had two free treadmills on each side of me and wasn't blazing hot my entire run because of all the body heat around me. I think that if possible I'll continue to be a night owl and go late to the gym to avoid the crowds. However, I am counting down the days until Spring and the start of Daylight Savings so I can hit the roads again!!

2nd Shift Update!

Well, Dan has been on second shift for a whole week and surprisingly things have been going pretty smoothly!

Dan's major complaints have been that he can't get to runs as fast as he does on thirds because of all the traffic in the city at that hour and that this shift will be more detrimental to his waistline since he tends to have a lot more options on where to go out to eat! He really needs to get into the habit of packing his lunch! Also, during this shift he gets a lot more minor runs... shoplifting, domestics, etc. instead of the more crazy stuff that goes on in the middle of the night.

I, on the other hand, have actually been enjoying myself since Dan has been on second shift. I feel like I can do my own thing without feeling guilty that I should be spending time with him. I feel like I have been able to keep the house more clean and orderly, which if you know me, makes me very happy! I can go workout whenever I want and for however long I want. I can get all my homework done because what else do I have to do instead. And I get all the love and attention from Remi every evening :) Doesn't get better than that. I will say though, at the end of his rotation I do start getting kind of lonely... :)

Remington has been doing okay with the switch as well. Last time Dan was on second shift we had a horrible problem with Remington throwing up in his crate before I could get home to him in the evening. It was a mess and a huge pain to not only clean up his throw up, but also give an 80lb dog a bath by myself. The vet told us that dogs often will throw up because their stomach gets empty causing bile to build up. He suggested we feed him a little something mid-day to help. So... this time around we have started feeding Remington three times a day instead of his normal two. He now gets one cup in the morning, one cup in the afternoon, and one cup in the evening. So far that has helped and I have not had to deal with any upset bellies.

So... for the most part we are doing just fine with the switch. However, I won't lie... if Dan would get offered to go back to thirds we would switch in a heartbeat!!!

Remi and I do miss having our king size bed all to ourselves :)

Year End Running Report

Goal for 2013... 300 miles!

Sweaters with Thumb-holes!

For the longest time I have been a little bit obsessed about running sweaters that have thumb-holes. The thumb-holes keep your sleeves from riding up and also keep your knuckles covered!! I would often read my running blogs and see people with their awesome thumb-hole sweaters on and jealously would overcome me :) So... I finally got my own and I'm so excited for them to arrive!!

Old Navy was having a 40% off all Active Wear sale so I jumped at the opportunity to make these thumb-hole sweaters part of my running wardrobe!

I got one of these in this color!

Two of these... one in this color and one in pink!

And one of these in lilac purple!!

I was a little disappointed on some of my color choices because they had limited selection of things in my size... but over all I could not be happier :) Did I mention how much I love sweaters with thumb-holes :)
