Running stats and CrossFit WOD's for the week of January 20th - January 26th... 30 Before 30 - January's Healthy Breakfast (No Bake Breakfast Bars)

I'm not a breakfast person on the weekdays. Most of the time I'm in so much of a rush to get out the door and into work that I only have coffee in the morning and I continue to drink that until lunch time. I know that I really need to work on eating breakfast since I know it's better for my body. This week I decided to make Breakfast Bars in hopes that I can take one of these to work with me in the morning and a piece of fruit to fuel me throughout my day.

No Bake Breakfast Bars (www.pbfingers.com)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups old fashioned oats
  • 8 tablespoons protein powder (I used coffee flavor)
  • 2 teaspoon cocoa powder (optional, but recommended for a more chocolaty flavor)
  • 8 tablespoons almond butter
  • 4 tablespoons chocolate chips
  • 4 tablespoons white chocolate chips
  • 8 tablespoons slivered almonds
  • 8 tablespoons milk

Combine all ingredients except for milk. Stir everything together and add milk, one tablespoon at a time until everything is moistened but thick enough to shape into bars.

Cut into bars and refrigerate overnight.

Tada! Then you have a speedy and good for you breakfast in the morning!

Dan and I have been eating these like they're going out of style!

YUM!

Mileage & CrossFit Monday

Running stats and CrossFit WOD's for the week of January 13th - January 19th... this was a decent week for me with everything going on. I have been preparing documents for Phonathon which starts next week. That is always a crazy time. My proposal class for school started which always creates a lot of stress. And I've really been trying to concentrate on my workouts. I definitely did more CrossFit than running this week, but I consider either a win. Most of my runs I was dragging... but I really tried to keep pushing through.

Impress Press on Manicure

Something I have been loving recently is the Impress Press on Manicure!

I have seen these manicure kits for a while now, but I really thought that they would probably be a waste of money and not work...

Oh how wrong I was and I owe my friend Debbie and her daughter Paige for showing me the light!

Pretty much what you do is clean your nails off with a little cleansing pad that comes in the kit. Then you find the press ons that will fit your nails best. Then you simply press them on and avoid contact with water for 30 minutes. It's that easy!

To remove them you just peel them right off or use a little nail polish remover to loosen them up!

I have tried these twice now... once during my week long cruise... and they stayed on without any problems at all... even longer than a week! And what is even more exciting is that I can get two uses out of one package!

What can I say... these things bring me a little bit of happiness and make me feel extra pretty!

Try them out for heaven's sake!

Mileage & CrossFit Monday

Running stats and CrossFit WOD's for the week of January 6th - January 12th... it was another wacky week weather wise in Indiana. We have gone through an 80 degree temperature difference in just seven short days. From -40 below zero at the beginning of the week to 45 degrees yesterday! Crazy!

In the past couple of months I have not be keeping up with CrossFit or running at all for the most part. I would do a work out here and there, but not stick with it like I should have. In saying that, I can still run 4 miles without too much trouble, but dang... it doesn't feel great! I have been trying to ease back in to CrossFit with some at home workouts before I get thrown into the real deal this week and I have officially started training for my next half marathon.

Today a new semester of school starts and I will be trying to tackle this last bit of my Gerontology Masters Program. I have really struggled to get this program finished with all the other things going on in daily life. In these next 16 weeks my goal is really to try to strike a balance with school, work, fitness, family, friends, and life in general. I want to remember that things don't have to be perfect... I just have to keep trucking along and not give up. This is the year I get this thing done!

Year End Running Report

My goal after last years running report was to hit 300 miles in 2013...

I think I did just that!

Of course... currently my new goal is to hit 400 miles before my 30th Birthday (September 2013-August 2014). So far I haven't been doing all that great keeping up with my running... but as you can tell, usually my high mileage months are in the summer.

I also thought my lifetime stats on the website that I track my running were interesting...

This report only makes me want to eat a donut immediately!

Happy running friends!

Life @ LPD!

I don't think I've mentioned this on the blog yet, but soon Dan will be going to 12 hour days. We as a family of course have mixed emotions about this change in his schedule, but honestly after doing the cop wife thing for several years now I feel pretty adaptable to most changes that we face and like nothing is out of the norm for our family. I could not have said this four years ago...

What I do think will be hard for Dan is leaving behind his shift buddies that he has developed such close relationships with over the past year.  As you can imagine, when you work the kind of job that Dan does and deal with crazy situations day in and day out you develop pretty close bonds with your brother in blue.

Their last shift together...

Hopefully this transition will go as smoothly as possible for all the LPD families involved... we will just have to wait and see.

Photo a Day Challenge : Week #53

Well everyone... I have officially made it through an entire year of taking a photo a day! Can't believe I actually did it! Ready to start 2014!

Day 30 - Me (sick today... I'm obviously a joy to be around)

Day 31 - Celebrate

Day 1 - Lunch

Day 2 - Begins with G... (gramps and his grand-dog)

Day 3 - My Town (the blue bridge I cross every time I go home)

Day 4 - Word to Live By (YOLO... you only live once)

Christmas 2013

After our amazing vacation it was back to the real world for Dan, Remi and I... Remi got horribly sick after being boarded for a few days (we are still battling that), I got the flu, then I got a horrible cold (which I still have), and then... to top everything off, our five year old washing machine broke and we had to buy another one because the old one was beyond repair! Yeah... Whirlpool Cabrio you are not my friend! I suppose this is what we get for going to the Caribbean and leaving our loved ones behind!

However, we had great Christmas' with our families!

Dan, Remi, and I got to spend good quality time with almost everyone on my side of the family!

(sorry these pictures are a little blurry)

And then we got to see almost everyone on Dan's side of the family... which is pretty rare!

So even though our luck returning from vacation hasn't been the best... we sure were blessed to see all these wonderful people and spend time talking, laughing, and just being together with one another! We are truly blessed!

2013 Rhoton Recap

It's that time of year again! Time for the yearly recap of the exciting events that took place in our lives! I know you absolutely cannot wait to relive every moment with us :)

Dan gets accepted on the S.W.A.T Team (click here & here for full post)

Dan unexpected makes it onto the S.W.A.T Team as their sniper and entry member. Even though he hasn't officially gone to S.W.A.T school he has gotten to participate with the team during all of their training and call outs. I know he has enjoyed it very much so far.

I ran my first Mini Marathon (click here for full post)

Even though I didn't prepare nearly as well for this race as I should have... I did make it through and even ran the entire race. It was painful during and after, but so worth it. This is one of my greatest accomplishments in life so far!

Nashville Vacation (click here, here, here, & here for full posts)

This vacation wasn't exactly what we expected, but we did enjoy ourselves and had a good time together. I especially loved this vacation because Remington joined us and I have some great photos of him living life to the fullest! If I could take every vacation with him I would :)

Arizona (click here, here, here, & here for full posts)

This family trip was to visit Dan's Mom and Dad who recently moved to Arizona and his brother Matt's family. We don't get to see out nieces and nephew nearly enough and it breaks our hearts. So this week with them was priceless and we ate up every bit of time we could with these three little people!

5K PR (click here for full post)

Running is definitely something I struggle with. I'm not really fast and I have to work to go long distances. One of my main goals I wanted to do this year was run a 5K in under 30 minutes. I succeeded in this not once but twice. However, my main PR in a 5K was 28:34.

Family Photo Shoot (click here for full post)

After years of wanting to do family photos with Dan, Remington, and I... we finally got those done. One of my friends at work took some amazing pictures of the three of us. I loved them all and could not ask for a better keepsake during this time in our lives.

Remington becomes a Therapy Dog (click here for full post)

After a month of training, Remi passed his test to become a Therapy Dog! I was probably the proudest dog mom around! We are hoping to visit nursing homes as soon as I go through orientation in January! Can't wait to use this opportunity to build Remi and I's bond with one another.

Caribbean Cruise (click here, here, here, & here for full post)

Dan and I haven't taken a cruise since our honeymoon so we loved every minute of this one! We went to the Bahamas, San Juan, and St. Maarten! Even though it will probably be several years before we go on another one we can't wait to go on something like this again!

Well those are the major highlights of 2013... what will 2014 bring???
