Mileage Monday

Running stats for the week of October 19th - October 25th... We have been a family on the move lately. I swear we are just never at home anymore these days. Roarke, Remi and I have been in P-town for the past week staying with my parents while Dan attends sniper school (hoping to do a blog post on that for you soon). It has been hard being apart as a family, but I also didn't want to be by myself while Dan was doing 14 hour days. Needless to say we miss him terribly and are looking forward to being reunited.

It has been nice being in P-town though because I have the company of my Mom and Dad during the day and of course someone who wants to help with Roarke more often than not. I also have been able to get outside and run whenever I want for the most part which is not something I'm use to. The road to my parents house is closed down right now as they do repairs so the traffic is super low and I have it all to myself for the most part.

We did have a set back at the beginning of the week. Remington injured himself once again while he was outside playing. He was in pretty bad shape for a few days during the start of the week so I didn't feel comfortable leaving his side. He was in so much pain I spent an entire night sleeping on the floor snuggling him. Luckily it worked itself out and he is back to normal now. I just have to keep in mind that he isn't the young dog he once was which is heartbreaking.

Fall Fun

Every October Dan's older brother Matt, who lives in Arizona, flies into Indiana with his entire family to visit all of us who still reside here. So during that time we all make the effort to get together so everyone can enjoy being with one another. This year was special for me because Roarke got the chance to meet all of his cousins on the Rhoton side. Let's just say it was cuteness overload!

It was quite the trip and we enjoyed every minute of it! It will be interesting to see how things are next year when Roarke is roaming around!!!

Running stats for the week of October 12th - October 18th... We were out of town the beginning of the week, then we were trying to get re-settled when we got back home, and before I knew it I was packing up again to head to my hometown. PHEW! So this past week was not productive AT ALL when it came to running for me. Hoping that the upcoming weeks I'll be able to fit some good workouts in since I'll have a bit of help with Roarke while I'm away visits my parents. Until then... I got NOTHING!

Week #18

Roarke

Weight: 12lbs 12oz

Length: 25 1/2 inches

4 Month Checkup: During this checkup we discussed Roarke starting the teething process and how to relieve some of the symptoms. I definitely think we are starting this as Roarke is not sleeping great at night anymore and is very fussy during the daytime. I asked about some rough skin that he has developed around his knee and elbow areas which the doctor said is just baby eczema. I am putting a combination of lotion and vaseline on it to clear it up. We also talked about starting Roarke on cereal and how I can tell when he is ready for it. I would definitely say he has interest in us when we are eating our dinners, but I would like for him to be sitting up a little bit better on his own before we start in on that adventure.

Super excited to see Dr Hodson!

Post Shots: Roarke recieved another round of shots and took them like a champ! He cried for only maybe a few seconds and then was happy as a lark for the rest of the evening :)

Roarke doesn't hardly look like a baby anymore, but instead a little boy. I swear I put him to bed at night and by morning he looks different and bigger than when I saw him the night before. Roarke loves bath time, being in the baby wrap, and going on long walks with Remi. He has mastered lifting his head, rolling over (both ways), and sitting up in his big boy chair. He smiles constantly and has the best little giggle. He has definitely discovered his hands and feet and I see him concentrating on them often. He doesn't nap much during the day, maybe only three 45 minute to an hour naps, but he has started sleeping completely through the night (I don't even wake him up to feed). This is nice for him, but I still get up to pump or else I would be miserable by morning. He still loves reading and looking at books, but also loves listen to music and having Mommy and Daddy sing along with it even though we don't have good voices at all. He is just so much fun!

Mastery

Very soon after Roarke started lifting his head like crazy he FINALLY mastered rolling over from back to tummy and tummy to back! I'm thankful I have two more items to check off the developmental milestone list before our 4 month check up! PHEW! It isn't that I would get scolded by our doctor or anything, but you always feel like they are judging you, if you know what I mean, and you see their minds working as they wonder why your baby isn't where they should be yet.

My big boy is also starting to really enjoy sitting in his big boy chair!

Ummmm... has someone been drinking?

I continue to enjoy him sooooo much!

Lessons in Lifting

This past week Roarke FINALLY started to lift his head a lot during tummy time. I was beginning to get a little worried because I knew this milestone should be taking place, but it just hadn't been happening. I tried to be patient since I know all kids do things at their own pace, but our 4 month check up is coming up soon and I didn't want to have to tell the doctor he hadn't done this yet. I'm predicting that Roarke will also begin to roll over very soon. He did this at about 1 month old but hasn't since and the doctor thought that it was probably just an accident since it was so early on. Even though I absolutely love to see Roarke learning to do new things and becoming stronger and stronger... I also find myself tearing up daily because my baby is disappearing. I never would have thought I could love a tiny human as much as I do him!

"Well, hi Mom!"

"I call this my superman!"

"And this is my working hard face!"

"Mom just can't believe what a big boy I am!"

I'm sure from here on out there will be a rapid occurrence of milestones taking place. When people tell you that they just don't stay little long, boy are they right, I feel like I blinked and time was gone. So thankful that I have been able to spend almost every moment with him. I'm so blessed!

Running stats for the week of September 28th - October 4th... well the drop in temperatures this week definitely put a damper on my walks with Roarke and Remi as well as my running. I have trouble knowing how to dress Roarke for weather changes and worry constantly that he just isn't warm enough. Plus... I really don't enjoy any temperatures below 70 degrees. The upcoming weeks temperatures look fabulous and I'm looking forward to enjoying the fall.

I have been feeling pretty guilty lately about Remington. When we first brought Roarke home Remi was doing wonderful with him. And even now he still is, but I can see the jealously setting in with Remington lately. He has been extremely clingy to Dan and I and will physically lay down between us and Roarke when we are playing with him on the floor. We do everything we can to make him feel including in everything, but I can't shake the feeling that it just isn't enough. I know that I probably need to take him on a long long walk every day, but more often than not there just isn't the time to do it. I have got to make more of an effort to make sure to do this for him as much as I can since I feel like it would help immensely.

Finding a balance between taking care of a baby, a dog, a husband, my house, and myself is challenging I guess.
