Year of Dates : February 2012

For February Dan picked an "Out and About" date. This date consisted of something we had done before, but never just the two of us by ourselves.

Bowling

So for this date we headed to a local bowling alley in our town. I'm never a big fan of most bowling places... mostly because I prefer clean air to breathe and most alley's don't sell that. However, the one close to us is smoke free so it was perfect! We decided to go on Sunday and in the morning time because it was gosh darn cheap! We only paid $1.50 per game! HOLLA! Excuse the blurry photos, all the cameras in our house were deader than a door nail so we had to settle for IPhone pics!

Our date was pretty fun, except for the annoying Dad coaching his young children how to bowl properly!  I swear I never once heard him say "good job" it was always, "next time you need to do this"... come on Dad chill out and let your kids just have fun!  I'm sure he thought Dan and I were complete amateurs by the way we bowled... I guess we are actually!

I'm sure the people around us thought we were crazy as we took pictures of our awesome shoes and bowling balls! O'well...

We played 3 games and Dan beat me each one... You can hardly tell what our scores were so I'll enlighten you...

Game #1: Dan 168 Me 114
Game #2: Dan 181 Me 118
Game #3 Dan 141 Me 79

No, I'm not very good as you can tell!

We each enjoyed ourselves. Its nice to laugh at each others gutter balls and bad bowls. It reminds us to not take life to seriously and just enjoy what we have with each other.

Mileage Monday

Running stats for the week of February 20th - February 26th... the lesson I learned this week was to stick to my schedule. As you can see, I didn't do that this week.  I didn't feel like running on one of the days I was scheduled to run. I told myself that I would do it the next day... that turned into the day after that... and the day after that. Since I just started getting back into my running routine I can't go off schedule much or I start to fall back into not running at all.  Again... note to self, the most important thing I need to do right now is stick to my schedule or I'll fall off completely!

Thankful Thursday (Daylight Savings)

Today I'm thankful for longer days! Have you noticed that there's more daylight hours? I actually can drive to work as the sun is coming up and get home before it goes down! Love it!

Since the days are getting longer that means Spring is right around the corner! Which means Daylight Savings Time starts in a matter of weeks!!!  I'm not counting or anything, but its actually 24 days away!!!  YAY! Once that extra hour of daylight is added to my life all in the world is good!

Our Late Valentine's Day

Dan and I never celebrate holidays when we are actually suppose to.  That's what his crazy schedule will do to you! But we did manage to fit Valentine's Day in, even if it was a day late.

We always celebrate with our usual sushi dinner...

Followed with a sweet treat...

And then some cuddle time involving all three of us...

Our Valentine's Day ends up perfect every time!

THOR Makes a Move!

Remember about a year ago I introduced you to my co-worker's plant Thor???

Remember we replanted Thor in a newly decorated container???

Well, in the middle of the week Thor is making a move into a new office space.  As we were preparing him for his trek we were shocked at how much the little fella has grown!!!

We just hope Thor does as well in his new space as what he did in this one!

Don't worry Thor, I'll be visiting you!

Crazy Story

This weekend Dan heard a crazy story about a fellow officer in another city.  This officer is actually a very close friend of ours. We'll call him Officer L.  Here's how the story goes...

Officer L. had been working crazy hours for the past three weeks. He had just been put on the SWAT Team so he was going through training, plus working his regular shifts. Finally his days off arrived and he planned to focused on getting some much needed sleep.

Later in the day he was woken up from a deep sleep by a loud BANG! Officer L. thought that maybe he had just been dreaming and went back to sleep. A few minutes later he was woken up again by another loud BANG! Now he was curious, but still so tired he soon drifted back to sleep. A few minutes later another loud BANG! This time Officer L. was up and determine to see what was going on.  He got dressed and before he knew it someone was knocking at his apartment door.  The person told Officer L. that there was a crazy guy in the parking lot shooting off a shotgun! Officer L. grabbed his radio and called in for back up before he ran out the door to find the guy.

Once more police officers arrived they started searching the area, but never found the suspect who had been shooting the shotgun. Officer L.'s supervisors told him to go back to bed because they knew how tired he was from working such long hours and that they would take care of the situation.

A few hours passed and soon Officer L. was woken up by a phone call from his supervisor. He was told he needed to come outside his apartment building to look at something. Officer L. got dressed and went outside where several officers were standing around his police car. Officer L. took a quick look and noticed the whole back end of his police looked like it had been blown up!  The guy who had been firing his shotgun in the parking lot had actually fired 7 rounds into the back of Officer L. police car! TRUE STORY!

Pretty crazy eh?

The suspect was never found and we are all wondering what caused the guy to do this?  Does he hate the police? Did Officer L. arrest him at one point?  Did this guy follow Officer L. home? We will probably never know... but it's pretty scary all the same! We are just grateful that Officer L. didn't get out of bed when he heard those first two shots fired to investigate... if that guy was outside he could have shot Officer L. and probably killed him.

Mileage Monday : 8K Training Plan

Since I wanted to get on the ball with my running I decided to sign up for an 8K Race in April. For those of you who don't know... an 8K is almost 5 miles. I figure signing up for this will give me some motivation and since it is not until April, it will give me time to get ready for it.

Whenever I decide I'm going to do a race, I sit down with my calendars and bust out a training plan for myself. This helps to keep me on track and to get excited! I usually follow Hal Higdon's novice training plans. These are always easy for me to understand and forces me to include rest and cross training days so I don't get burnt out. His plans also help me to slowly build up my mileage!

Here's my training plan for my 8K that's coming up on April 21st!

Once this race is over with I plan on continuing with my training and hopefully being able to run my Half Marathon this Summer/Fall! Thankful Thursday (Hubby)

Today I'm thankful for my husband who works his butt off by working a full-time job, part-time job, and helping out around the house! I don't know what I would do without him :)

Even though his crazy work schedule puts a strain on our relationship at times, in the back of my head I know why he's working so hard and such long hours. And even though he's not around the house very often, he still makes time to do the chore lists that I leave him each week!  I married the right guy!

Thank you Dan for all you do for us... your hard work does not go noticed! XoXo
