Remington's Rundown

Hey Doodle Lovers! It's Remington Bear here!

Today I'm going to tell you about a new challenge I'm hoping to take on this summer!

Ever since I was a small pup...

Yep that's me...

Mom has wanted to get me certified as a therapy dog.

I don't know much about this job, but if it involves working with my Mom I'm all for it!

Mom says to be a therapy dog I have to be at least one year old... uuuuhhhhhh last I checked I'm four!!!

But, Mom said she wanted to wait a while to do something like this because I needed time to mature and calm down a little bit.

We've been looking into some training classes for me so I can pass my evaluation with flying colors! Don't get me wrong... I have the basic doggie stuff down, but what I need to work on is doing those things with distractions all around me like large groups of people, other doggies, wheelchairs, food, walkers, kids, etc. That's gonna be tough!

Mom found a 18 week training program that she's hoping we can do this summer... it basically takes me through 3 levels of training and by the time I'm finished I would graduate with my Canine Good Citizen degree! That is pretty much the same thing as having a Masters degree in the human world!

I'm pretty excited! Do you think I'll be a good candidate for this job!? I sure hope so... I don't wanna let Mom down! I'll keep everyone posted!

Time to sign off... WIGGLES!

Inauguration Week... UIndy Style

Last week was the Inauguration of the new President of the University of Indianapolis, Dr. Robert Manuel! The University celebrated by putting together a full week of events and activities for alumni, students, parents, friends, faculty, and staff... everyone was invited to take part!

Feel free to take a look at the UIndy webpage to see pictures of all the fun events!

We definitely had a great time!

Congratulations President Manuel! We are so excited to have you at our University!

Running stats for the week of March 18th - March 24th... I pulled a muscle in my right leg this week. Nothing serious just annoying. I ended up doing zero running... disappointing! Between all that was going on this week I constantly felt like I was playing catch up. Catch up with work, with school, with things around the house, etc. I don't think I went to bed before 11:30 each night.

Only 40 days of training time left until race day. I'm getting more and more nervous about the race in general. Not so much about if I'll be ready... I think I'll be ready... more so about all the unknowns. What will the weather be like that day? What should I wear? How will I feel that day?? What should I eat and drink that week??? And on and on and on... things run through my head. I'm pretty excited about the whole thing though. This is the first time in the past 2 years that I feel like I'm going to complete this goal. I can't wait to see how it all turns out!

Life @ LPD!

Many of the officers in Dan department have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of their.... NEW POLICE CARS! Woot!

The department decided on leasing a whole fleet of new cars for every officer! It sounds like that would be a lot of money, but it actually was cheaper than buying. And... all the current police cars are falling apart... no joke!!

Some of the cars came yesterday. They will arrive in shipments of six... then be marked up, lights added, and interior gadgets installed!

Dan thinks his will be in the third batch that comes in!

Dan's pretty excited about having a brand spanking new car... I'm more excited about the possibility that it will fit in our garage! Those Crown Vics are boats people!

I'll sure miss this old girl though... Dan and her have had many adventures together!

Mr. Groundhog made a Mistake!

The Groundhog said that Spring was coming early this year...

For some reason I think he made a BIG mistake!

I'm really in need of much warmer weather!!!!

Isn't it crazy how different last years weather looked compared to this years???

Mileage Monday

Running stats for the week of March 11th - March 17th... this week in running was fantastic! Finally, after months of training, I hit double digits! 10 miles!!! Looking back I never thought I would be able to run that long. This run was one of a kind. I never really felt tired or out of breath... I just felt like I could run forever. I can only hope that the day of the Mini I feel this way and that the weather is just as good.

CHOMPS Energy Chews

Once again I have been looking into different types of "fuel" to take on my long runs and just runs in general. If you recall, last year I tried out the GU Energy Gels. They weren't bad, but I just couldn't get use to the consistency... YUCK! Anyways... I recently invested in some Chomp Energy Chews and I LOVE them!

I got a box of the Cranberry Apple with Caffeine.

One serving size is 4 chews and they are only 90 calories!

I was a little surprised how BIG the chews turned out to be...

They are monster size!

On my long runs I just felt completely wiped out after mile six... and then exhausted when I was completely finished with the run. I knew that I probably needed to start taking in some sort of calories to help me out. I love these because they seriously gave me a bolt of energy during and even after my run! I was definitely pleased!

I see why they call them energy chews... they are definitely chewy!

I will definitely be carrying some with me during the Mini Marathon this May :)

Boys Weekend, Vacation, and Family Visits

Dan and I have been planning all sorts of fun activities for this summer, which is very unlike us since we are total homebodies...

home·bod·y

/ˈhōmˌbädē/
Noun
A person who likes to stay at home, esp. one who is perceived as unadventurous.

In our eyes, this year we went a little crazy on our trip taking. YIKES! We have three trips planned that we are pretty excited about!

Trip #1: Dan is doing a "boys weekend" with a bunch of his buddies from high school. They are staying up by Lake Michigan since it is the half way point to meet for all of them. They ended up renting a pretty nice lake house for a couple of days. I'm really not sure what they plan to do. Probably want guys do best... drink beer, eat, drink beer, fish, and drink more beer! Sounds like fun. Remi and I are going to have our own special Mom/Dog time together while their gone.

Trip #2: This is our Nashville vacation that I am beyond excited about. Yeah... I know it isn't anything insanely fun like a cruise, but it is a week of together time with just Dan, Remi, and I. I'm telling you... life doesn't get better than that and it is time that is hard to come by these days. I have been scoping out all the things I wanna do while we are there and places I wanna eat! There are also a lot of dog friendly places in that area, which is heaven on earth to me :)

Trip #3: Surprise! We are taking a trip out to Arizona to visit Dan's parents (they live half the year out there) and his brother's family! Dan hasn't been out that way in almost 4 years and I haven't been out there in 3 years! We have hesitated on going because flights were so expensive, but we ran across some tickets that the price just couldn't be beat! I'm super excited to get to spend time with my nieces, Hannah and Blakely, and my nephew, Max! They are all growing up so fast and Dan and I have missed out so much on their lives.

I'm definitely looking forward to our trips and I'm sure you'll get to read all about it as the summer progresses!

Running stats for the week of March 4th - March 10th... Remember how I said that I had big goals for this week. Well, as you can see Spring Break fever got ahold of me and I spent most of the week relaxing. It's back to the grind today with school, work, and most importantly... running!!! Only 8 weeks until the Mini Marathon... I can't slack off too much more if I wanna do this.

Remington's Rundown

Hey Doodle Lovers! It's Remington Bear here!

Anyone else having trouble adjusting to Daylight Savings Time???

I sure am!

It messes up my eating and sleeping schedule!

This is what I've been doing to help with the adjustment...

Zzzzzzzzzz...

What???

Can you believe that my Mom's favorite time of year is when Daylight Savings Time kicks in? She loves all the extra daylight she gets. Sometimes she will even go running at 9:00 at night because it's still light outside! Can you say... CRAZY!

Time to sign off... WIGGLES!

Hug Them a Little Tighter

The past couple of days I have been pretty emotional. I know many people will think I'm silly once they read this, but my heart has been broken.

I have followed this certain blog for several years... The Life and Times of Remington. It basically follows the life of a Newfoundland named Remington. Probably a little less than a month ago, Remington's Mom informed his readers that he had been diagnosed with cancer and than it was a very aggressive form. Yesterday, Remington passed away...

I don't know why this struck me so hard... maybe because this Remington was the same age as my Remington or because they had the same name in common? Maybe it was because through his blog I felt like I knew him? Or because I could imagine the pain that his Mom and Dad must be feeling after the loss? It's hard to know for sure...

But one thing is certain... I have been hugging my own Remington a little tighter these past couple of days. It reminded me to never take the time I have with him for granted, because things can and do happen that you just can't be prepared for. It reminded me that the life of a dog is just too short... and that I need to make sure my Remington lives every day to the fullest. And lastly, it really brought home how hard it will be to say goodbye to my Remington when the time comes... I'm not sure how I will handle it.

So today... take a moment to hug your pets a little tighter... a little longer... and with a little more love... because we don't know what tomorrow holds for any of us.

And if you have a moment... stop by Remington's blog and read his goodbye... it's a good reminder about what life is about.

Mileage Monday

Running stats for the week of February 25th - March 3rd... its been a lazy week. The weather has been crappy and I decided to hang out under the covers most days instead of hit the treadmill. No motivation at all.

Once Friday came and I hadn't ran at all I decided to just finish up the week with no running and start up again on Monday! It makes me a little nervous because I know I need to keep my endurance up... but I figured a week of rest can't hurt me too much right?

This week is Spring Break for the students at the University. As an employee I get two days off at the end of the week. I'm hoping I can log some high mileage this week since I won't have too much on my plate and the weather is suppose to warm up.

OH!!! And did you know my absolute favorite time of the year starts next week??? Welcome to my world Daylight Savings Time!!! I love you and the extra hours of daylight you provide me with each evening! Spring is on the way!!!

Missing Myla

This weekend my good friend Myla came in to town. She was here to help her brother move, but I was lucky enough to get the chance to spend some time with her!

Saturday afternoon Dan and I headed to Kilroy's Bar & Grill to meet up with Myla, her brother, and some other friends. I was so happy to get to see her. It has been a long time since we last got together and a lot has taken place in both of our lives so we had a lot to catch up on.

This was the first time I had been to Kilroy's... I was super impressed with their selection of Long Island's!!!

Of course we ordered one each and they came in a medium sized pitcher! HA!

Even if it was just a short amount of time together... it was priceless!

Once Dan and I left, it made me miss Myla even more...

Hopefully, we get the chance to see each other again sooner than later!
