Mileage Monday

Running stats for the week of August 24th - August 30th... our family has been on the move this past week which is why this is posted quite late! YIKES! Obviously blogging hasn't been on my mind and instead trying to survive traveling with a 3 month old has taken priority. However, I must say Roarke does pretty good for the most part. My running definitely took a hit with our not normal schedule so I apologize for the lack of activity I have to share with you. Better luck in the upcoming week I hope. I have to admit though... my legs enjoyed the break :)

Remington's Rundown

Hey Doodle Lovers! It's Remington Bear here!

Life has changed drastically around my neck of the woods since my brother Roarke arrived. I'm really taking it all in stride except for the many sleepless nights I experience. It's hard work to make sure my Mom gets up every time Roarke makes a peep! I gotta keep her on her game let me tell you!

Roarke is pretty fun for the most part and I keep a very close eye on his whereabouts throughout the day.

Mom often comments about how she'll never have to hire a babysitter since she has me around to watch over Roarke! I try my best!

Because Roarke is still so little he takes up a lot of my Mom and Dad's time...

But they both make a really big effort to make sure I know I'm still loved and care for everyday!

So even though things are "different" for me around here I wouldn't change it for the world because I just have one extra person who loves me!

Time to sign off... WIGGLES!

Mileage Monday

Running stats for the week of August 17th - August 23rd... I hit a milestone this week! I finally ran a 5K just a little over 2 months post pregnancy! YAY! It wasn't a bad time either... my average pace with 8:55 minute miles... and to finally hit a distance that I use to run during my recovery/short run days was amazing. I feel like running is getting a little easier every week.

A lot of people have been asking me how my recovery has been going. Personally I would say I'm pretty much completely back to normal. My incision is completely healed and the scar is becoming lighter and lighter. The only thing I notice every now and again is a little pain in that area and I have a lot of numbness where they cut me open. It is a strange feeling. I finally feel like my ab muscles are coming back together and I'm hoping to really start working out that part of my body when September hits. Until then I'm loving going out for runs, walking Remi, and stretching!

Speaking of Remi... I think he is recovered from whatever was bothering him last week. We are back to walking again. He also got a much needed hair cut on Saturday. He was getting pretty shaggy because we hadn't had him clipped since right after Roarke was born. I'm sure he is much cooler now!

Good Morning Roarke

One of my absolute favorite things is watching Roarke wake up from a long nights sleep or nap time. The faces he makes, the exaggerated movements he does, his little squeaks and coos... they all make my heart smile. There is just nothing better. I have found myself really trying to concentrate on taking in all these little moments that I enjoy with him because I know I will blink and they will be gone before I know it.

Boys are so fun!

Mileage Monday

Running stats for the week of August 10th - August 16th... it was a warm week but boy you couldn't beat the weather and all the sunshine we got. It sure is better than the months and months of rain we received not too long ago. I have been very slow to increase my running mileage just because I want to make sure not to injure myself. I would like to be able to run a 5K by the end of the month. I finally ran 2.5 miles this week and didn't feel bad at all afterward. The trick is to stretch stretch stretch for me.

During the weekend Remi hurt his left front leg. I really have no clue what he did to it at this point. We started on one of our usual walks and just as we got about a block from home he started limping on it badly. I worried that maybe he stepped on something and it was in one of his paw pads, but I checked it as good as I could and didn't find anything. We turned around and went straight home since one of my fears is being far away from home with an 80 pound dog who can't walk. I kind of broke down that night because I continue to see Remington aging and it breaks my heart to see his body fail him in any way. I'm hoping whatever is going on with him works itself out, but if not we will be making a trip to the vet very soon.

Week #9

Roarke

Weight: 10 lbs 7 oz

Length: 22 3/4 inches

Monthly Check Up: This month was when we got our shots. Yikes! Roarke got six different shots and the process about broke my heart. Roarke only cried for a little bit, but knowing he was in pain was hard. The doctor said that everything was looking good and he is on target with where is is suppose to be. Once again she commented on how alert and easy going he is. I can't help but wonder if this is something she says to everyone or if he is really more mellow than most babies.

Post Shots: I was really concerned with how he would take the shots. I've heard horrible stories from some parents about the days following. The doctor said to give him Infant Tylenol, a warm bath, and do bicycles with his legs to work the medication through. When we got home from the doctor Roarke napped for quite some time. But when he woke up the water works started and I could definitely tell my sweet fella was in some pain. He cried through his entire bath and most of the evening, but when I finally got him to sleep he slept through the entire night and woke up with smiles all over his face. The next day it was like nothing had happened. RELIEF!

Roarke is changing more and more each day. I truly cannot get over how big he is getting and how much more of his personality is coming out. At the beginning of the month Roarke surprised us by learning to roll over from tummy to back on both the left and right sides. I also have been shocked with the fact that babies are able to projectile poop. Roarke surprised me a few mornings by shooting poop across the room! WOW! I quickly learned to let him work his morning "gifts" out before opening up his diaper! Roarke has been discovering his hands and fingers and is getting closer and closer to sucking on his fingers and thumbs. He is focusing more and more on people, objects, and his buddy Remington (and his wagging tail). He enjoys staring at bright lights and ceiling fans and has recently enjoyed listening to me read books to him and looking at the pictures. We have enjoyed the huge smiles we get on a daily basis from him.

Running stats for the week of August 3rd - August 9th... I haven't been overly concerned with my weight loss since I had Roarke, but it is always sitting at the back of my mind. I don't necessarily care "how I look" physically... I can assure you I probably will never wear a bikini again... but it is more about just wanting to feel toned and tight again. I weighed myself this week and I have about 9 more pounds to lose until I'm back to my old weight. This is exciting news to me, but I also know that those last few pounds are going to be tough ones to get off. I think running more is helping, but I'm going to need to start doing different exercises that challenge my body and change my diet. I hate the thought of changing my diet!!! I'll do that as a last resort :)

Remi is back at his walking! I enjoy this time with him so much. It's our time together that just the two of us can bond a little bit. Since Roarke was born Remi has been wonderful with him, but I definitely feel guilty at times because he has to feel left out every now and again. I voiced my concerns with Dan and he assured me Remi is just fine... yes, life has changed for him... but both of us try our hardest to make sure his every want and need is met. Remi and I went to our first Therapy Dog visit since Roarke arrived and I was pleased with how he just fell right back into the swing of things. Those visits make my heart smile to not only see the good Remi does for the residents but also the good the residents do for Remi and myself.

Remember my IT Band injury I had a year ago? Well taking pretty much a full year off of doing exercise definitely has helped it, but this week I felt a tiny twinge in that right knee again. I'm doing my best to be pro-active and not let it flare up again. The thought of battling that again makes me cringe.

Running stats for the week of July 27th - August 2nd... it was a week of travel, visiting family/friends, laughter and sadness. It left both Dan and I's heads spinning. Besides all that has been going on I tried to keep up with my running and use it as a stress reliever.

Remington battled his sickness until the middle of the week. We did everything we could to settle his belly down. We put him on a white rice and boiled chicken diet & switched his foods completely once that didn't really help. However, I truly think he was battling a virus of some sort because one of my friends dogs experienced the same thing that same week. I'm just glad he is over it now and back to his old self. We have resumed our normal walk schedule and hope we don't pick up anything else.
