Thankful Thursday (Another Year)

Today I'm thankful for another year of life. Wow! It's hard to believe I turn 28 today. That's two years away from 30! Wow! Wow! Wow!

It doesn't seem that long ago that I was celebrating my 21st Birthday and heading to the BMV to get my license renewed. Funny how time passes by without us even noticing.

I'm thankful for the many wonderful years I've had so far and hopefully many more great years to follow! Happy Birthday to me!

Mileage Monday

Running stats for the week of August 20th - August 26th... I feel like I'm doing pretty decent with my training so far. I'm at that point right now that I feel really guilty if I don't do my scheduled run. Dan has also been very helpful with making sure I stick to my schedule. When I don't want to go do my run, he always says... "You'll regret it later if you don't" or "But you've been doing sooooo good... don't mess it up now!" I did miss my long run on Sunday of this week... but I have plans to make it up first thing this upcoming week. We'll see what happens.

Total miles ran this week : 9.1 miles

Shin Splints

... they have reared their ugly heads again. I worried that they would make an appearance with my recent half marathon training and without fail they did.

Right now they aren't unbearable. I have been nursing them every night after I run with hour long bouts of icing. This makes them feel almost 100% better. I also have been doing Stretch X, which is an hour long video from the P90X series twice a week if possible as well as my regular stretching. This seems to help as well.

I haven't had to deal with shin splints much since my high school cheerleading days. I always have made sure to progress in my running slowly to make sure I don't get them. I think that going from zero miles to 14 miles a week might have something to do with my problem. Hopefully I can keep things at bay for a little while and maybe they'll disappear soon.

Thankful Thursday (My House)

As much as I complain about my neighborhood, neighbors, and how much I want to move... I will not forget to be thankful for my home...

It's nothing special, but it keeps us safe and holds the memories of my little family's life together. And even though I wouldn't pass up the chance to sell it, I would probably be a little sentimental when we packed up to leave!

Remington's Rundown

Hey Doodle Lovers! It's Remington Bear here!

This past weekend I was lucky enough to have both my Mom and Dad home! That never happens so I felt pretty lucky! Since we don't usually get to do stuff together as a family Mom and Dad decided they were going to take me some place special... some place I had never been before!

Ft. Harrison State Park! Wiggles!!!!!!

Mom and Dad have been here many times... but obviously they had over looked taking the coolest Doodle around! I'm not bitter or anything...

So off we went! The weather was fantastic... not too hot or cold... perfect! When we got there we saw there was a running event going on! Look at all those cars!

But that didn't stop us! I was on a mission to explore!

OoOoOo... big pond!

What's over there Mom?

Wait! Look over there!

I was super excited! But before we even started on our walk I made some new friends! Two young ladies were over come with my handsome doodle looks and couldn't keep their hands off me! I was just glad they didn't mess up my hair too much! PHEW!

Bye ladies! Sorry, but I only have one woman in my life... my Mom! Soon we were on our way to explore again...

We saw lots of pretty flowers...

And then we found a duck pond... QUACK QUACK! The weird thing was that there were no ducks? Hmmmmmmm...

I was getting hot so Dad and I took a little break at this rest area. Dad loves hanging out with me.

Of course our break wasn't very long because Mom insisted that we get a family photo together! She really gets on my nerves at times... always go go go!

Then we were off exploring again!!! There were a lot of people at the park the day we were there. It seemed like every couple minutes someone was stopping either Mom or Dad and asking them what kind of dog I am. For the last time people... I'm a Doodle not a Poodle!

We walked a long time on the trail! I sniffed and sniffed and sniffed and sniffed... stopped to greet people... and sniffed some more! So many wonderful smells on this trail!

I ended up finding a bench on the trail and begged Dad to sit awhile with me. I needed another water break! I had worked up a massive thirst!

Mom and Dad got tired of waiting on me and I had to run to catch up with them before they got too far ahead of me!  Wait for me guys!!!

There were several steep hills that we walked up! By this time I was getting pretty tired. I told Mom and Dad I just wasn't sure if I was going to make it the rest of the way! They assured me it wouldn't be much longer until we would be back to the car.

They weren't lying... soon we were back at the beautiful pond we saw at the beginning. I took one final glance at the nice view and then it was time to hang out in the shade for a while!

Boy... I had the best time at Ft. Harrison! Nothing is better than new smells, new people, and being with my family! I hope I get to come here again sometime soon!

This sign even invited us back as we drove out! Hope Mom and Dad listen!

Time to sign off... WIGGLES!

Mileage Monday

Running stats for the week of August 13th - August 19th... And I'm back! I recently came across a couch to half marathon 10 week training plan that I'm interested in at least trying out for a little while. There is exactly 10 weeks until the half marathon that I wanted to run arrives. I would be pushing it to do it in this short amount of time, but I figure I'll give the plan a try and see what happens... no pressure. To stick with this plan will take a lot of dedication which I don't know if I have in me right now. Running 5 times a week... that's a lot! We'll see what happens ;)  I am feeling very proud of myself that I starting running again though! Woot! And I don't feel like I lost too much of my endurance... SHOCKER!

Thankful Thursday (Dogs)

It's no secret that I love my dog, but I'm also extremely thankful for dogs in general. I think they help point out to us humans the important things we need to be doing in life such as...

Stopping to smell the roses

Not taking life too seriously

Taking naps whenever we want

Remembering to forgive and forget

Getting our exercise

Giving out love like it's going out of style

Enjoying food

.... and LIVING!

To often us humans forget what life is really all about... but I think if we take a look at dogs they can remind us what is truly important... and that is to live our lives to the best of our abilities.

Remington is always able to point out to me that it is the little things that matter... not the homework, job, or cleaning the house. It's the 5 mile long walks, eating junk food at times, or acting crazy with friends that matter :)

I'm thankful that God created dogs to point that all out to us!

Phonathon... God Give Me Strength!

It's that time of year again folks! Summer break is over and the students are headed back to college! This only means one thing for me... the start of Phonathon recruitment, training, and 12 weeks of managing student fundraising on our campus...

I can tell the start of the new academic year is fast approaching because my stress and anxiety level is through the room. When will I ever be able to calm myself down.

As much as I dread these next three weeks... once Phonathon gets rolling it will be smooth sailing throughout the rest of the semester. Or... at least I hope so!

In the dark...

This morning when I came into work and turned on my light... my bulb went out!

Usually I don't even turn my lights on in the morning because I have nice sunlight streaming in my window... but not this morning... it is rainy and cloudy!

It's kind of hard to see in here and the few people that have ventured in my office this morning have commented on its darkness...

But I refuse to turn on the bright florescent lights over head! They make me feel like I'm in a hospital.

So... until the sun starts shining again... I'll be hanging out in the dark!

Happy Monday!

Thankful Thursday (Grandparents)

Today I'm thankful for Grandparents! Most people my age that I know don't have any of their grandparents still living. I however am blessed and still have both my Grandmothers still alive!

Not a day goes by that I don't think about how lucky I am to still have them in my life! I hold many fond memories of them in my heart! They have made many sacrifices for me and helped to mold me into who I am today!

Grandparents are fantastic don't you think!

3 Day Military Diet

On Wednesday of this week I started on a diet that I found on Pinterest. It's called the 3 Day Military Diet. Basically, the idea of the diet comes from military people who use the diet to lose weight quickly. The plan says you should lose up to 10 lbs in 3 days if you follow the diet exactly! Dan did this diet a few days ago and he lost about 6 lbs and followed it exactly. Personally I think 6 lbs in 3 days is pretty good. So... I decided to give it a go. Below is the diet plan and what my thoughts and results were after 3 days.

www.blessedmommy.hubpages.com <--- original plan found here

Day 1

BREAKFAST-- 1/2 GRAPEFRUIT, 1 SLICE TOAST, 2 TBS. PEANUT BUTTER, COFFEE OR TEA

LUNCH--
1/2 CUP TUNA, 1 SLICE TOAST, COFFEE OR TEA
DINNER--
2 SLICES ANY TYPE OF MEAT (ABOUT 3 OZ), 1 CUP GREEN BEANS, 1/2 BANANA, 1 SMALL APPLE, 1 CUP VANILLA ICE CREAM
Day 2
BREAKFAST--
1 EGG, 1 SLICE TOAST, 1/2 BANANA
LUNCH--
1 CUP COTTAGE CHEESE (OR 1 SLICE CHEDDAR CHEESE), 1 HARD BOILED EGG, 5 SALTINE CRACKERS
DINNER--
2 HOT DOGS (no buns), 1 CUP BROCCOLI, 1/2 CUP CARROTS, 1/2 BANANA, 1/2 CUP VANILLA ICE CREAM

Day 3

BREAKFAST--
5 SALTINE CRACKERS, 1 SLICE CHEDDAR CHEESE, 1 SMALL APPLE

LUNCH--
1 HARD BOILED EGG, 1 SLICE TOAST
Oops... forgot my picture of this meal!
DINNER--
1 CUP TUNA, 1/2 BANANA, 1 CUP VANILLA ICE CREAM
Instructions
DIET WORKS ON CHEMICAL BREAKDOWN AND IS PROVEN. DO NOT VARY OR SUBSTITUTE ANY OF THE ABOVE FOODS. SALT AND PEPPER MAY BE USED, BUT DO NOT USE ANY OTHER SEASONING. DIET IS TO BE USED THREE DAYS AT A TIME.

IN THREE DAYS, YOU SHOULD LOSE 10 POUNDS. AFTER THREE DAYS OF DIETING, YOU CAN EAT YOUR NORMAL FOODS, BUT DO NOT OVER DO IT. AFTER YOUR 4 DAYS OF NORMAL EATING, START BACK ON THE 3 DAY DIET. YOU CAN LOSE UP TO 40 POUNDS IN A MONTH IF YOU STICK TO THIS DIET. IT IS A SAFE DIET.

REMEMBER: DO NOT EAT BETWEEN MEALS!

NOTE: COFFEE OR TEA THE FIRST TWO MEALS OF DAY ONE ONLY. WATER ONLY FROM THEN ON.
Thoughts: Hot tea without any sugar is not my thing; plain tuna is not my thing; and plain cottage cheese is not my thing :) All three made my stomach turn! I never felt hungry during this diet... in fact I had to force myself to eat all my dinners most of the time. But I did feel very deprived! I craved pop and sugar so badly! To get me through my days I drank tons of water to fill me up. The number one thing I craved was Skittles! HAHA! I did lose weight, but this diet was way harder than I thought and I doubt I am able to keep off the weight I lost. I would suggest this diet for people who are days away from getting married and want to lose a few extra pounds or many when your going on vacation and want to look a little better in a swim suit. I don't think this diet is a long term solution. I wouldn't do this diet again. For the most part I felt pretty awful... very tired, horrible headaches, unable to focus my vision and achy muscles. That is just my two cents.
Results: Day 1 I lost 3 lbs; Day 2 I lost 1.5 lbs ; Day 3 I lost .5 lbs
Now I'm going to go eat some Skittles!
