3 Day Military Diet

On Wednesday of this week I started on a diet that I found on Pinterest. It's called the 3 Day Military Diet. Basically, the idea of the diet comes from military people who use the diet to lose weight quickly. The plan says you should lose up to 10 lbs in 3 days if you follow the diet exactly! Dan did this diet a few days ago and he lost about 6 lbs and followed it exactly. Personally I think 6 lbs in 3 days is pretty good. So... I decided to give it a go. Below is the diet plan and what my thoughts and results were after 3 days.

Day 1


BREAKFAST-- 1/2 GRAPEFRUIT, 1 SLICE TOAST, 2 TBS. PEANUT BUTTER, COFFEE OR TEA

LUNCH--
1/2 CUP TUNA, 1 SLICE TOAST, COFFEE OR TEA 
DINNER--
2 SLICES ANY TYPE OF MEAT (ABOUT 3 OZ), 1 CUP GREEN BEANS, 1/2 BANANA, 1 SMALL APPLE, 1 CUP VANILLA ICE CREAM 
Day 2
BREAKFAST--
1 EGG, 1 SLICE TOAST, 1/2 BANANA
LUNCH--
1 CUP COTTAGE CHEESE (OR 1 SLICE CHEDDAR CHEESE), 1 HARD BOILED EGG, 5 SALTINE CRACKERS
DINNER--
2 HOT DOGS (no buns), 1 CUP BROCCOLI, 1/2 CUP CARROTS, 1/2 BANANA, 1/2 CUP VANILLA ICE CREAM

Day 3 


BREAKFAST--
5 SALTINE CRACKERS, 1 SLICE CHEDDAR CHEESE, 1 SMALL APPLE 


LUNCH--
1 HARD BOILED EGG, 1 SLICE TOAST

DINNER--
1 CUP TUNA, 1/2 BANANA, 1 CUP VANILLA ICE CREAM 
Instructions 
DIET WORKS ON CHEMICAL BREAKDOWN AND IS PROVEN. DO NOT VARY OR SUBSTITUTE ANY OF THE ABOVE FOODS. SALT AND PEPPER MAY BE USED, BUT DO NOT USE ANY OTHER SEASONING. DIET IS TO BE USED THREE DAYS AT A TIME.

IN THREE DAYS, YOU SHOULD LOSE 10 POUNDS. AFTER THREE DAYS OF DIETING, YOU CAN EAT YOUR NORMAL FOODS, BUT DO NOT OVER DO IT. AFTER YOUR 4 DAYS OF NORMAL EATING, START BACK ON THE 3 DAY DIET. YOU CAN LOSE UP TO 40 POUNDS IN A MONTH IF YOU STICK TO THIS DIET. IT IS A SAFE DIET.

REMEMBER: DO NOT EAT BETWEEN MEALS!

NOTE: COFFEE OR TEA THE FIRST TWO MEALS OF DAY ONE ONLY. WATER ONLY FROM THEN ON. 
Thoughts: Hot tea without any sugar is not my thing; plain tuna is not my thing; and plain cottage cheese is not my thing :) All three made my stomach turn! I never felt hungry during this diet... in fact I had to force myself to eat all my dinners most of the time. But I did feel very deprived! I craved pop and sugar so badly! To get me through my days I drank tons of water to fill me up. The number one thing I craved was Skittles! HAHA! I did lose weight, but this diet was way harder than I thought and I doubt I am able to keep off the weight I lost. I would suggest this diet for people who are days away from getting married and want to lose a few extra pounds or many when your going on vacation and want to look a little better in a swim suit. I don't think this diet is a long term solution. I wouldn't do this diet again. For the most part I felt pretty awful... very tired, horrible headaches, unable to focus my vision and achy muscles. That is just my two cents.
Results: Day 1 I lost 3 lbs; Day 2 I lost 1.5 lbs ; Day 3 I lost .5 lbs 
Now I'm going to go eat some Skittles!

Did diet last week & lost 1-2lbs which prob water. Disappointed!!! When came around to dinners, I couldn't eat all at one time so I ate banana then in little while ate carrots or apple whatever...u get my point....SO I think my prob was just eat what is given at designated times NOT stretch it out ...dinner will be hardest cause want ice cream later..STARTING AGAIN TMRRW & WILL DO IT RIGHT WAY & PRAYING TO LOOSE AT LEAST10LBS

I started this diet yesterday. Not going to lie, it was hard in the evening, being at work for most of the day made it easy. But by the time I got home, it was only 5pm. I didnt want to eat my dinner extra early then sit around my house starving. So I cut my apple into slices and had a slice or two which held me over to take a 30 minute walk around my apartment complex. Got back home, had another slice and some water and it held me over until around dinner time. Today was a little more difficult due to the fact that I dont enjoy cottage cheese very much but I didnt want to go in trying to replace everything on my first week. Next week I will definitely be saving 2 apple slices to put in that damn nasty ass cottage cheese.

My plan is to stick on this diet for at least 3 months. That's potentially 120 pounds that can be lost just by changing my eating habits a few days out of the week. For my 4 off days, I still plan to walk or do some type of mild to medium exercise. I'm almost 6 foot and weigh about 300 pounds. My weight luckily is evenly distributed in the right places of my body (ass, hips, thighs, breasts) but I dont like the way certain things look or fit on my body. I am going to stick to it though!! I'm only 28 plus I have no kids so there's no excuse. I want a Beyonce body with a K. Michele ass. Follow my journey on instagram: @touchoflovelle

Day 2 & having lots of headaches...yesterday was easier...having to eat hotdogs tonight grosses me out but I am doing diet right way this time.if loose 10 lbs I will do diet once mth to keep on track IF NOT it will be salads & protein & carbs on wkends...lets see

Giving this diet a try -- seems very balanced and I'm thru the second day and not hungry much. I ignored the diet's instructions to only have coffee on the first day.

If you have headaches and are sluggish/tired it's not the lack of calories...if you consistently drink caffeinated drinks, you're suffering from the lack of caffeine...NOT Calories!

And to answer questions:
Don't go more than three days on this. The calories are adequate, but if you keep going on this, your body will start to shut down its metabolism --alternate with 4 days of "regular" sensible eating.

There are plenty of substitutions for the foods you don't like but really, if you are complaining about the foods, don't go on this diet regimen --find something you like. This diet is to quickly lose weight --it's not a lifetime commitment -- Good Luck!

i am currently on this diet and i am feeling a little lethargic with minor headaches, airheaded actually and going through food withdrawal symptoms. trying to hang in as today is my last day of it, whoopeeii. i break for a couple days and then back on it. hoping the outcome is worth it.

I was in the military for many years and we did not eat like that. Lol i gained 30lbs of muscle and ate.... a lot. We had to though because we needed that fuel!!!!!!!!! I love food ;) interesting post. I know of a few folks that would like to try it out. Will share.

You will drop weight on this diet in 3 days if you're a heavy person. If your just wanting to lose a few pounds but you're really not that big then you're not going to lose weight in 3 days unless you exercise a lot.

I've been on this diet for two weeks going to be my third and during the first week I lost 6lbs which is great :)
My Second Week I Lost 10 pounds and during the breaks I've only gained 2 pounds back :) so that's great because I still lost a total of 14 pounds in half a month so I am exicited for my third and fourth week

This is actually the mayo clinic diet but yes the military uses it. It was designed for heart patients who need to lose weight quickly and safely before undergoing surgery. If you follow it exactly you will lose weight and you can keep it off after stopping. I dropped 60 pounds in 3 months after high school using this diet so I could make weight for the navy. Its extremely bland and not super fun but if you can handle it it works.

I tried this diet for one day and could not stand it. I was extremely cranky and hungry the whole day! But I guess I have to bear in mind that I exercise for over an hour every day and only weigh 120... Just eat healthy foods in moderation and have an active lifestyle and you will lose weight and keep it off!

It's funny how everyone is different I did this diet last week Started on monday, followed to the T except the hot dogs I ate 3 oz of chicken, weighed myself Thursday morning and lost 5lbs.... I will be trying this again tomorrow. I was full and never felt hungry. I don't like grapefruit, but found that the red grapefruit is much better. The diet I found like this, did not say anything about coffee or tea, so I just drank water with lemon in it (a gallon a day)

I think I'm lucky because I honestly like everything on this diet. I lost 3.5 pounds the first time I did it. I was very strict about adhering to the diet, with one exception. I drank black coffee every morning, because I couldn't risk caffeine withdrawal. I was full most of the time on this diet. I loved the whole experience. You lose weight partially because you aren't drinking any calories and you aren't snacking. This diet encourages your body to burn fat, because you're supplying it with fat. I ate tuna packed in olive oil. I always used fresh veggies. I steamed the brocolli and carrots together (leaving the carrots on about 5 minutes longer than the brocolli). I ate a fried egg for b-fast on the 2nd day. I bought the small Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream cartons (each is about 1/2 cup), and bought tiny organic bananas. I mashed the bananas and ate them with the ice cream when the meal included both of them. I encourage anyone to try this diet. It's possible to do anything for 3 days. If you really hate something, you can substitute. Just watch the calories and understand you may not lose as much. Good luck, everyone!

Seriously, this is the stupidest thing I have ever seen and i guarantee its not proven to be effective at anything but starving your body of necessary nutrients and ruining your metabolism. The food shown is disgusting processed garbage. You will end up fatter once you start eating real food again, that is a guarantee

I only did two days of this diet but stuck to it ridgidly, I lost a total of 1.5 pounds. I am a little disappointed its not more but a loss is a loss in my opinion so I'm still happy. My stomach is definitely flatter and my abs are showing a little again. I didn't sleep well at all after the first day and had a raging headache all of the second day. I intend to do this diet for two days in a row each week so I can hopefully see a steady but gradual loss over time, I have 9.5 pounds to lose to reach my target. I started this diet on Monday and lost a total of 9.2 pounds. I followed it to the T only substitutions were 1 splenda every morning with my green tea and I substituted the cottage cheese with cheddar cheese. I've always stuck to a pretty low carb diet so what drew me to this diet was the toast and saltine crackers lol. I think thats what made day 1 and 2 bareable. Day 3 on the other hand is tough. I felt pretty weak. You feel like you are hardly eating any food.. I still managed to go for a walk for 30 minutes. I did light cardio Day1 for an hour and light cardio Tuesday for 45 minutes. Drank about 120 ounces of water each day. I am trying to maintain a pretty balanced meal plan these next 4 days and restart this diet Monday until I lose 40 pounds. The militarydiet.com website has pretty detailed information on substitutions and what to eat on the off days. Check it out if your interested. More than the 9.2 pound weightloss these 3 days have helped me to be more concious of portions and has made me eat better. I will try to come back and share more results.

This is the WORST FAD DIET I've ever seen!!! As a recent college grad with a degree in dietetics I strongly discourage anyone from trying this diet! Healthy weight loss should be 1-5lbs a month not a week. This diet goes way beyond portion control. Everyone has different calorie needs based on height, current weight, and ideal weight.

Started this diet last week for the first 3 days, lost 4 lbs. Continued for next 3 lost only a pound. This weekend i pigged out and starting again tomorrow. Drink my coffee and tea with stevia. You aren't supposed to exercise with this diet as it depletes your body too fast of necessary energy.

On the military diet site, there are things you can substitute. And it actually says to keep the salt at a minimum other than what is in the diet. And it also says that you should only do minimal exercise as for this diet doesn't require heavy workouts. I have done this diet before, and I only added Mrs. dash seasonings and I only did light exercise (20 minute walks) a few days of the week, but not much. And I did lose 30 pounds in a month. Then I had a baby, so I am going back on the diet to drop the 30 pounds again. This diet isn't for you if you do daily vigorous workouts. You will want a high protein type of diet for the extremely physically active people.

I'm on day 1 of this diet, and so far it seems pretty simple. I don't eat sugary foods, or crave desserts so I may even skip the ice cream.
Because I already eat pretty healthy I think this diet will be easy for me to keep up and continue with it.
My only issue is I love coffee with sugar and cream. I also don't like tuna, so I will need to substitute that.

Annoyed at everyone substituting, it is a CHEMICAL DIET. That means you need to eat these foods not oranges etc. TO get the right things to react to each other. Very sad at the little amount of self control I see a lot of people showing here! That's how you got overweight in the first place.

You are supposed to eat 6 small meals a day (200 cals) lots of protein and vegetables and WATER. This is not a real diet. You will gain the weight right back the next week. Just eat healthy and exercise. You really think hot dogs and ice cream are going to help you lose weight ... Probably not.

I did this,diet for about 9 weeks off and on. I lost a total of 13 lbs but I cheated sometimes. I also exercised 3 sometimes 4 days a week. Be sure to drink plenty of water and your body will, (may), get use to it.

Okay, I did this diet about a month ago for three weeks in a row. The first week I lost five pounds. Second week, I lost two pounds and the third week, I maintained and the fourth week off, I lost a half a pound. The only thing that I substituted was chicken instead of tuna. I drank a lot of water and walked but not to the extreme. Tomorrow, I am going to start again and I am going to do this for six days straight and see how it works! I cannot wait for the results!

The diet was tough on my first day! Like you, my body isn't used to less calories. What kept me going was the goal that I have to lose the extra pounds fast for a cousin's wedding. The food combination was quite unusual but there were veggies and proteins so I was ok. I appreciated the portioning and calorie counting, which are important in losing weight.
All in all, I lost around 7 pounds, and my dress fitted perfectly. Will I do this diet again? Maybe. One tip is to drink tons of water and do light walking.
