Effects of Hurricane Sandy

OOPS!

Happy Halloween!!

Even though I'm not really into Halloween... and don't even pass out candy to the kids in my neighborhood...

(I know... I'm the grouchy old lady next door)

I did however, make my Phonathon students Halloween goodie bags!

Don't you love my artwork skills!

I thought they turned out kind of cute :)

Anyways... have a safe Halloween!

Uncle Mike

Remington's best friend came to visit us this weekend. Uncle Mike! No... Uncle Mike isn't Remington's best dog friend... he is Remington's best human friend!

Uncle Mike is actually a very close friend of Dan's, but Remington grew very attached to Uncle Mike when he took care of Remington while Dan and I were away on our honeymoon. Every time we even mention Uncle Mike's name to Remington he gets super excited!!!

It is really heartwarming to see the two of them together. When Uncle Mike arrives at our house Remington gets so exciting he starts crying in excitement. He only does this with us when he hasn't seen us for a very long time. Uncle Mike is the best tug of war player in the world and Remington takes full advantage of it when he is at our house. What I love the most about their relationship is that it doesn't take any time at all for Remington to make himself at right at home with his best buddy!

Uncle Mike is the one person that Remington probably loves just as much as us.  And that is saying something! I'm thankful for their friendship.

Mileage Monday

Running stats for the week of October 22nd - October 28th... So I have been trying to get back into the running/exercise groove this week. I'm hoping by the beginning of November that I will be running again on a regular basis. Gotta get my swagger back! Since it was a gorgeous day on Sunday of last week I decided I would go for a short run. It felt amazing and I kept thinking to myself why I ever stopped running in the first place... oh yeah... I get lazy.  I hadn't ran in over a month, so I was quite surprised how awesome I felt on the run! Sadly, the day after my 2 mile run my legs were so sore and were on fire when I would walk! Goes to show you how stinkin' fast I get out of shape. It ended up taking three full days to feel like myself again! After I was feeling better I did a 3 mile run on Thursday... the next day the soreness returned!

It also doesn't help that when I return from my runs I find these two lounging on the couch together!

I like that I can bust out 3 miles without much effort even after taking a long time off... but I'm not enjoying how I feel afterwards. However, I know that once I get back in the habit I won't have to take such a long time off to recover. PHEW!

Thankful Thursday (Vacations)

Today I'm thankful for the thought of vacations. What a wonderful thought it is! Dan and I had started looking into vacations a while ago because we often like to book things early since you can get a better rate. The number one thing I look for in a vacation is the possibility of bringing my dog. Boarding can get expensive and I worry about Remington the whole time he is there.

Anyways, first we were thinking about going to Barkwells in North Carolina. It is pretty much a 8 acre fenced in vacation spot that you can take your dog. Dogs can run, swim, play, relax without a worry in the world. I love dogs and thought this would be perfect.

However, after pricing things out it was a little too expensive for my blood and it would have been over 8 hours of drive time.

Anyways, after that I came across a website called vbro.com. Pretty much you can look at houses that people rent out all over the world and many of them are pet friendly. Dan and I didn't really want to drive far, but wanted to go some place we could relax, have fun, and most importantly make sure Remington had a great time.  I ended up running across a place called Evergreen Farms in Nashville, TN. There is a small cozy cabin located on 100 acres of land. The cabin is pet friendly and the price we got for a week long stay was unbeatable! We also have our own little private in-ground pool! After reading over 33 reviews... all 5 stars, I fell in love!!!

I think Dan and I plan to book the property for a week long stay in the spring or summer. The spot is only 10 minutes from Nashville, but far enough in the country that its really private.  Plus... it doesn't get much better for Remington than to have 100 acres of land to roam on!  I'm hoping we will like it well enough that it will become our little getaway spot for the future.

Lightning Strike!

Yesterday, at work, it stormed really bad in the morning time. I was sitting at my desk and a huge bolt of lightning struck the tree right outside my office window! It was so close I seriously thought it was going to come directly through my window and strike me dead! You could actually see the smoke coming out of the tree from where it hit! AHHHHHH! After all that excitement was over we discovered that the bolt of lightning fried several employee computers, phones, and our copier/printer. Bummer!

I was scared!

Luckily... my laptop, phone, and other cherished electronic devices where unharmed! PHEW!

Thankful Thursday (To Do Lists)

Today I'm thankful for To Do Lists! They are what keeps me on track in life :) I have them on my phone, in my calendars, and on random pieces of paper throughout the house. I love crossing off the tasks I have accomplished throughout the day!

If people saw my daily To Do List they would think I'm a much busier person than I really am :)  I like it that way!

90th Birthday Celebration!

This past weekend we celebrated my Grandma's 90th Birthday with a huge party in her honor! We invited over 100 people! I was pretty nervous about how to really plan for that many people plus food, but it all turned out perfect and I think my Grandma enjoyed herself very much!  As usual she was the life of the party!

Here is Grandma's cake

Table decorations... all with hand cut leaves... right Mom?

Some Halloween Prezel Poppers!

Can't do a 90th Birthday Party without some old photos!

Here's my party planning posse!

And the world's best hubby!

For Grandma's present everyone who came included a memory that they had of her. I put all these memories together and presented her with a book at her party.  She really liked it I think.

Picture with the cake!

And then the people started rolling in! Let the festivities begin!

We took a lot of pictures huh?

By the end of the party Grandma was getting a little annoyed with Dan the photographer!

It was a good party. Grandma got to see a lot of family and friends that she hasn't seen for a long time. I got to meet a lot of people that I didn't know.

I know Grandma was a little upset that we did this for her, but honestly I wouldn't have had it any other way.  She has done so much for us her whole life, this was the way I could give back to her just a little bit.

Happy 90th Birthday Grandma! You are one of the biggest loves of my life.

Remington's Rundown

Hey Doodle Lovers! It's Remington Bear here!

There I was... taking my morning snooze...

When all of a sudden Dad decided we were going on an adventure!

Dad never takes me on adventures... that is Mom's job... but I guess he decided I hadn't been on one in a while so off we went!

Where we going Dad???

You wouldn't believe where we ended up!

At the playground! AWESOME!

I always like going to the playground by our house, but there are always kids playing on the equipment and Mom and Dad tell me no dogs are allowed!  But Dad and I went on our adventure early in the morning so that all the kids were in school or sleeping! No one was there to bother me! YES!

Here I am getting ready to go down the slide!

Oops... almost forgot my leash!

Here I am ready to go down a smaller slide!

I had the best time while I was out and about! Can you believe what an awesome Dad I have!!!  The playground... I just can't believe it!

It was pretty chilly outside so when we were on our way home I was ready to snuggle up in bed and get warm!

I put some warm socks on and decided to rest the remainder of the day.  Boy... adventures with my Dad sure do tucker me out!

Time to sign off... WIGGLES!

Thankful Thursday (Ice Cream)

Today I'm thankful for my beloved ice cream! Dan knows how much I love it because I'm constantly asking about going to get some and he gets very annoyed with me at times. HA!

For our anniversary I talked him into taking me out to Ella's Frozen Yogurt that is close to our house! I had never been, so I thought it would be something new and fun to do. Right after we got there I could tell Dan regretted bringing me because now it's my new Heaven on earth!!

Do you see the Heaven part???

It doesn't get much better than mixing and matching different flavors of ice cream and then topping it off with a million choices of toppings! I mean seriously!  Who wouldn't love this place!

I know I'm in love!!!

When we left Dan said... "I can just hear you now... I wanna go for ice cream at Ella's... take me to Ella's!"  He knows me too well.  But... the great thing about this place for him is it is located right by the gun shop he ventures in to often.  It's a win win for the both of us!

3 Year Anniversary

Happy 3 Year Anniversary to my wonderful husband!

Thank you for all your love and support.

For working so very hard at your job; day in and and day out.

For being there for me so matter what!

For cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, taking out the trash, and mowing the yard.

For dealing with my OCD and anxiety almost 24 hours a day.

For watching trashy reality TV with me!

For being a great Dog Dad!

And for loving me unconditionally... even when I'm hard to love.

You are my very best friend in the entire world and I wouldn't want to spend one day without you.
