Remington's Health
It just dawned on me that I never updated you all on what ended up happening with our sweet Remington. Don't get too excited... it was pretty uneventful and frustrating.
We took Remington into the vet bright and early for x-rays and I got a call from the doctor much later in the afternoon with the findings. The vet explained to me that Remington was confined to a crate before he was put under and during that time he had chewed his feet, hip, and tail area to the point that they were bleeding. Lovely. They put him under for the x-rays and found nothing wrong with his feet at all, but took a good look at his paws and believed he was probably suffering from allergies. This was pretty frustrating for me to hear because when we took him in earlier in the week to have him checked we specifically asked if it could be allergies because he always gets them really bad around this time of year. The vet assured us it wasn't and that x-rays were necessary... Hmmmm...
Long story short Remi is healthy and all joints and bones are fine... he just gets VERY bad allergies around this time of year. So $400 later... we got a nail trim and a diagnosis that we already knew! Ridiculous. But... what can I say, we did what we thought was best at the time and thats all we can do. I'm just thankful it ended up being nothing serious and we have our sweet Remi safe and sound back at home with us.
Thanks for all the thoughts, prayers, and good vibes that were sent our way!

Running stats for the week of September 21st - September 27th... This wasn't too bad of a week exercise wise for me. We had company here at the end of the week which made it easier on me to get out and about since they entertained the Roarke-a-nator. It is definitely more difficult to get my runs in compared to what it use to be. I really have to time things just right between Dan being at work, Dan sleeping, and Roarke napping. My little boy who use to take 3 hour naps during the day is now gone and I get three 45 minute long naps instead. I can't complain however since he sleeps so amazingly at night, it just has made it more challenging to step away for runs.
Because it is becoming more difficult to get any workouts done outside the house I figured it's time to start doing something inside instead. I'm thinking I'll pull out my PiYo DVD's this week and get quick workouts in during those 45 minute nap times. Lord knows I need to start focusing on building some muscle mass again.

Sorry for this late post... I was having trouble with my computer and needed Dan's help to fix it :)
Running stats for the week of September 14th - September 20th... the weather was so nice this week that instead of using my time outside running I spent it taking walks with Roarke and Remi. I only get so much time that I can get outside with those two so I really wanted to make sure that they both got to soak up the nice weather. In other news I am officially obsessed with baby wearing and Roarke LOVES going on walks in the baby wrap. I think mostly this is because he can look all around and explore his environment. We usually spend at least an hour out on our walks and by the time we get home my little guy is pooped. I did get one run in early on in the week and it felt pretty good. I have recently discovered that I really have had to watch how far and "hard" I run because I have noticed that after my longer runs or ones that I push myself my breastmilk supply doesn't seem to be as much as usual and I just can't have that happen.

Running stats for the week of September 7th - September 13th... the hardest thing about keeping up with working out for me is scheduling the time to do it. I know a lot of people would think that I have all the time in the world to do something like this, but it is harder than you may think. I have definitely not been doing wonderful with my running lately and I know it is something that I need to put at the top of my list again.
On a lighter note I started taking Roarke on walks in the baby wrap this week! I love this thing! I was always scared that he wouldn't feel secure in it, but it is so amazing and keeps him tight against me. I see me walking with him like this instead of in the stroller from now on. I also think he loves to look around when he's in it!

Remington's Health
At the end of last week Dan and I could both tell something was going on with Remington. For the past few months he just hasn't been himself. It seemed like there was something constantly going on with his legs even though he hadn't done anything out of the ordinary to hurt them. One evening when he came back inside from going potty Dan barely touched him and Remington started screaming in pain, ran away from us, and did not want us to touch him again. After that happened I was convinced it was time to get him to the vet.
We saw a new vet that had just entered the practice we take Remington too. He did a very close exam on Remington since he had never seen him before and this is what we were told. In terms of Remington's legs... all his joints are fine, but when pressure was applied to his toe bones on each foot Remington displayed an extreme amount of discomfort. The vet said there is no way to know what exactly is causing this without x-rays which we plan to have done in the upcoming weeks to see if we can diagnose the issue. The vet gave us pain medication and told us to keep Remi as quiet as possible until we know more. I'm guessing that if the x-rays don't show anything then blood tests will be what is next.
Also, during the check up the vet discovered that the muscle mass in Remington's jaw bone and temple area is not as developed and strong as it should be. He believes this could be caused by an autoimmune disease which attacks the muscles. This would eventually cause him to no longer be able to open his mouth at all... it isn't to this point yet... but we need to keep an eye on it closely. This disease might also be related to the toe problems.
So basically we just need to have more tests ran to figure out exactly what is going on with our sweet Remi. The pain meds seem to be helping some and make him very tired, but Remington is still showing resistance in wanting to go up and down the stairs, jumping up on the bed, and having his feet touched in general. I posted what was going on in my Goldendoodle Facebook group and several people wondered if Remington might be suffering with Lyme disease? I really don't know and am looking forward to getting answers in the upcoming weeks. I will keep everyone updated as we find out more.

Week #13
Roarke
We don't go back to the doctor until next month so I don't have any stats to post for you. As far as everything else goes, Roarke is doing great! He is becoming so alert and I am loving that we are getting a lot of interaction from him everyday. He is lifting his head more and more during tummy time, but still has not mastered being able to roll over yet. He smiles for us almost constantly and likes to tell us what he's thinking by cooing. As you saw in my last post he is grabbing objects and almost everything he wants to put into his mouth. Part of our nighttime routine is reading books and I am shocked each time how interested he seems in them. I know he doesn't understand what I'm saying, but the pictures intrigue him I suppose. I read somewhere that parents who read to their children ensure that their kids will have 300+ vocabulary compared to parents who don't. So even though it might seem silly to some our story time in the evenings has definitely become one of my favorite times of day.

Rattlin' Roarke
Roarke is changing daily and picking up new skills before our eyes. This week he started to show interest in different objects and grabbing them!
My absolute favorite part of this video is when he smokes himself in the head!

Running stats for the week of September 3rd - September 9th... everyone's schedules have been a little off this week, plus the weather has been so dang hot so I was really bad about exercising. I did something to my left shoulder earlier in the week and could hardly move it... who knows what happened but it did start feeling better after a few days. Remi is once again not getting around well... we took him to the vet and received some bad news (more info on that in an upcoming post). I'm looking forward to the start of this week. Planning to start my runs back up and start adding in some strength work. Gotta get back into the swing of things.
