Remington's Rundown (Paws and Think)

Hey Doodle Lovers! It's Remington Bear here!

Remember this summer when Mom was hoping to get me certified to be a Therapy Dog? Well, even though summer is long gone... I think I might be on my way to being what Mom wanted! WOOF WOOF! How exciting!

This past weekend Mom and I had our first Animal Assisted Activity Class with the organization Paws and Think ... check them out!

Basically, we go to a series of three classes to help us prepare for the big evaluation we have to take to become part of this group. Once certified we can go on visits to children's reading programs, schools, hospitals, and nursing homes all around our area! Mom and I are pretty excited and hope to focus our visits on the older adult population!

For our first training class Mom was pretty nervous. She wasn't sure how I would react in that kind of situation, but of course I was a perfect angel and Mom left feeling like a super proud dog mom. The trainer there kept commenting that she couldn't believe how calm I was. Little does she know what I'm like when I'm out playing with my favorite Frisbee!

We learned all sorts of things during our first class like "watch", "touch", "stand", "roll over" (I didn't quite get that one), and what would be expected of us on our test. I even met a golden retriever that can sense when it's owners blood sugar is getting low! This made me think of Mom's friend over at The Metz Family blog and their son who suffers from Type 1 Diabetes. They need a therapy dog like that!

Sorry we didn't take any pictures of our first training class. Mom was super focused and trying to be a good student. We will try to capture all the fun we'll have during this Saturdays upcoming class!

Time to sign off... WIGGLES!

I just now saw this post. I have read a lot about Diabetic Service Dogs. Really cool! They're ridiculously expensive though, and I've heard they're an insane amount of work. I like the idea though! :)
